About
Us:
In Knightswood Congregational our Sunday
School came up with a better name for themselves - 'The eXplorers'. The
eXplorers have continued to thrive throughout the past few years. Numbers
in groups vary because of promotions to older classes. Most of our members
attend very regularly and also attend other youth groups that exist within
the Church.
Materials
used in eXplorers:
Age
3 to 11 are using "On The Way"
Age 11+ are using "Martha's Diner" by Pete Townsend (this info will be updated soon...)
How
we operate the groups:
Each
group, right up from the Crèche to the teenage group, is served
by two leaders on a weekly basis. Four leaders are assigned to each
group and two of the four will run their group for the first two weeks,
while the remaining two leaders will take over for the last two weeks
of the month. Having the same four leaders working with a specific group
ensures that both the children and the leaders are more "in-touch"
with what's happening and that the children will feel more comfortable
approaching 'their' leader. *All of our leaders have been through the
Disclosure
Scotland process or are currently submitting their application.
eXplorers
Outing to Craigtoun Park, June 2006
This year we hired a bus to take us to Craigtoun Park, just outside St.
Andrews.
There were myself, Alan, Eric and 16 eXplorers. It was a lovely day, not
too hot with lots of cloud. Karen did, however, manage to look like she
had been under a sun bed by the end of the day. She must have been standing
under the break in the clouds!!
We arrived at the park and immediately broke into our packed lunches.
After the couple of hours travelling we were all fairly hungry.
Once fed and watered we made our way over to the boat pond. Brave move
for Alan, Eric and myself but as under 16's required to be supervised
by someone 18 and over we had no choice. It must have looked quite comical
for people "on shore" to see the three of us trying to look very relaxed
sitting back whilst teenagers rowed us around the pond. The calm look
we had all adopted soon changed to panic when we realised they did not
even know what way the boat should be pointing! Once we did a few 360
degree turns on the spot we finally got on the move, crashed into a few
banks, ducks and other boats but hey it was fun!!!!! ... Read the rest of the report or view
pictures from the day.
The eXplorers do art
work and make posters to display in the halls and the Church from time
to time. One of these peices, for example, is below. They also perform
sketches and dramas that feature in their books.
