A recent letter on our website prompted the subject of Fairtrade products being discussed at the next Deacons meeting within the Church. It was decided that we should adopt Fairtrade as a policy of our Church.
Since then we have sent in our application, and have been officially recognised by the Fairtrade Foundation as a 'Fairtrade Church'.
So What does this mean for our Church? It means that we have committed to:- 1. use Fairtrade tea and coffee and sugar for all meetings, fellowship, events and coffee mornings. 2. move forward on other Fairtrade products (such as chocolate and fruit). 3. promote Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight - and through other activities where possible.
This is very much just the start of our work promoting Fair Trade within our Church, we plan on having Fair Trade stalls at Coffee Mornings, draw-up an action plan for future Fair Trade ventures, and more.
