| Fundraising Summary - December 2008 At the start of 2008, the year of our 75th Anniversary, we set out to raise enough money to refurbish our Church sanctuary and also donate money to local charities and good causes. Our target was to raise £15,000 with £7,500 going to the Church and £7,500 being split between decided charities. At the end of last year, the total fundraising stood at £12,086. We have since given £6,043 to the following charities and good causes. A big thank you to everyone who helped us raise the cash, your support, generosity and prayers have been fantastic! | Out with the old... - December 2008 ...and in with the new! Our 75th Anniversary redevelopment plans for the Church sanctuary are now complete. The work of trying to raise the necessary funds began in January and a string of fundraising events followed throughout the year to ensure the cash was available to proceed. Over the past few weeks, the church has started to see some of the changes take place: a new heating system being installed along with new glass doors, providing a central entrance to the Church. The past two days (Sunday 28th and Monday 29th December '08) are when the final touches were added! The pews were removed, carpets laid and the new chairs were put in place. You can see the changes on our refurbishment page .
| | | | | Re-penting at Yoker Primary - November 2008 As our Church's 75th Anniversary year comes to a close, we had time for one more job to be done. After we successfully made-over an old cloak-room in Bankhead Primary School , we thought we'd get out the praint brushes once more! At Yoker Primary School, where our minister is a chaplain and helps run the Scripture Union Club, we undertook the job of repainting their assembly/gym/dining hall. It had been "Tango'd". It was rather orange!! So we painted it a calming yellow. This was a job that took place over three nights some 50 hours were volunteered by Tamara Cairney, Lewis Faryma, Craig Coia, Robert Geddes, Mark Chatham, Dianne Smith, Lauren O'Hara and Robyn, Jessica, Pam and Alan Gibbon. Friday saw an early start visiting Bankhead Primary School for assembly then for a look round the new resource room that teenagers from the church made over. | | | | | Shoebox Appeal - October 2008 117 shoeboxes were dedicated to the work of Blythswood Care during our morning worship on Sunday 26th October. KCC members were asked to consider filling a shoebox with toiletries, hats/scarves/gloves, tools and stationery to be sent to children and adults in India, Romania, Serbia, Bulgaria, Albania, Hungary, Ukraine and Moldova. The number of shoeboxes is set to increase over the coming week as organisations that use our premises hand in their boxes. Since 1993, when the Shoebox appeal was first launched, Blythswood Care has distributed 990,860 shoeboxes - spreading joy and the Christian message with each box. Last year, 140,000 shoeboxes were donated, a figure that Blythswood are looking to exceed this year. View the video based on the distribution of theboxes in 2007 >>

Thanks to your support, we raised a superb £804, so well done everybody! | | | | | Changing Rooms - May 2008 When ideas were being thought of for the 75th Anniversary, the idea of giving time to the community was discussed. Over the years that I have been at Bankhead we have formed a very good relationship, and I knew that they had plans to make over an old changing room area to turn it into a space to be used by small groups and a resource library. So, I suggested this idea to the youngsters of re:Fre5h and they were keen to take it on. So in early May work began in the room. It was probably more work than initially expected. The room had to be cleaned, and then the tiles primed and painted. The roof had to be painted, and the floor sorted and finally a carpet laid. Pictures of the work can be seen in the Gallery. They worked over seven days and gave 100 hours of their time to make it happen. The youngsters involved were Craig Coia, Lewis Faryma, Mark Chatham, Sarah Grant, Rhona Proctor, Tina Pullan, Vanessa Pullan and Caitlin O'Hara. It was a good experience and was a fine example of how to be a good neighbour in the community.
